Nigerian Senate President Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has vehemently denied allegations of sexual harassment made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Akpabio, who spoke during the Senate’s plenary session on Wednesday, emphasized that he has never harassed any woman, citing his upbringing by his late single mother, who instilled in him values of respect for women.

Mr. Akpabio also highlighted his past achievements as a state governor, including being recognized as the “most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria” during his tenure from 2007 to 2015. He urged Nigerians and the media to avoid making conclusions, asking them to wait for the court’s decision on the matter.

The allegations against Akpabio have sparked controversy in the Senate, with Akpoti-Uduaghan submitting a petition accusing him of sexual harassment and abuse of office. The Senate has referred the petition to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct for further investigation
