Nigeria Launches Five Mini-LNG Plants to Boost Domestic Gas Utilization

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and its partners have launched five mini-Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. The ground breaking ceremony marked the commencement of construction works on the five Mini-LNG plants, namely: NNPC Prime LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete.

The plants, with a combined capacity of 97 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, are expected to increase access to energy for millions of Nigerians, provide job opportunities, promote economic growth, and contribute to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, emphasized the company’s commitment to the Federal Government’s gas-to-power aspirations, noting that natural gas holds the key to unlocking a bright and prosperous future for Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the development as an unprecedented feat in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, stressing that natural gas remains a vital vehicle for accelerating Nigeria’s industrialization, economic growth, and prosperity.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for locating the plants in the state, assuring of the state government’s support for the project through manpower supply, provision of adequate security, and host community collaboration.
