Nigeria’s Federal Government Vows to Investigate Sokoto Airstrike

The Nigerian Federal Government has pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the airstrike that killed 10 people in Sokoto State’s Silame Local Government Area. Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, made this assurance during a condolence visit to Governor Ahmed Aliyu in Sokoto.

Mr. Matawalle attributed the wrong bombing to erroneous information available to the military during the operation but clarified that security reports confirmed the area was dominated by the Lakurawa bandits. He praised Governor Aliyu’s commitment to fighting banditry and assured that the Federal Government would provide necessary equipment and resources to make the state safer.

Governor Aliyu called for improved military information gathering and surveillance to avoid hitting wrong targets in the future. He commended the military’s commitment to the state’s safety and thanked President Bola Tinubu for his concern.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with Senator Tambuwal expressing shock and demanding justice for the victims. The Sokoto State Government has also described the airstrike as an “avoidable loss of lives” and called for a thorough investigation.
