Electricity consumers in sections of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will experience a temporary power disruption on Monday, 5 October, following a planned maintenance exercise by the country’s power grid operator.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Sunday that engineers will carry out urgent technical work at the Gwagwalada 132/33kV transmission substation between 10:00 and 12:00 local time (09:00 to 11:00 GMT). The two-hour shutdown is required to allow maintenance crews to connect an earthing reactor to a 60MVA power transformer, an intervention designed to protect grid infrastructure and stabilize local power supply.
As a result, the regional distributor, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), will be unable to draw electricity from the substation during the maintenance window.
The outage will affect residential and commercial customers in Gwagwalada, Watson Door, and surrounding communities on the outskirts of Abuja.
In a statement, TCN management apologized to affected residents and businesses for the inconvenience, adding that power supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the work.
