The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has issued a public warning over unauthorized individuals claiming leadership of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), declaring that the union under Shehu Mohammed remains its only recognized executive structure.
In a public circular signed by TUC Secretary General Dr. N.A. Toro, the labour federation stated that Shehu Mohammed was legitimately elected during a delegates’ conference held in Lagos on 12 August 2024. The election was officially monitored by representatives from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment alongside national TUC executives.
The congress addressed claims by rival factions relying on a lower court judgment, clarifying that the ruling is currently being challenged at the Court of Appeal. Under the Nigerian industrial relations framework, the TUC maintained that no parallel executive holds legal standing while appellate proceedings remain pending.
Addressing government ministries, private employers, and state security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS)—the TUC urged law enforcement to investigate and prosecute those impersonating union officials.
The labor center warned that any agreements, negotiations, or administrative transactions conducted with unauthorized factions would be considered null and void, asserting that it will employ all legal and industrial mechanisms to protect the democratic integrity of its affiliate.
