The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) resolved a technical glitch on Saturday after the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) failed to recognise older Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during a mock accreditation in Osun State.
The issue was identified when 71-year-old voter Apostle James Oyewole was unable to be accredited with an older PVC at the Post Office Polling Unit in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area. Voters with newer cards were accredited within two minutes.
INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan, who was inspecting polling units across Obokun, Osogbo, and Egbedore LGAs ahead of the 15 August governorship election, instructed the commission’s ICT directorate to resolve the malfunction immediately.
INEC ICT Director Lawrence Bayode subsequently reported that the system had been updated. “Both old and new voters’ cards have been synchronised for a seamless capture and voting experience,” he said.
Prof. Amupitan directed the voter registry unit to log all operational issues observed during the exercise to ensure total system reliability before election day.
