The Nigeria Police Force has launched disciplinary proceedings against four officers following the circulation of a viral video showing them allegedly acting unprofessionally and using derogatory ethnic remarks against a motorist.
The officers—an Assistant Superintendent of Police and three Inspectors—have been detained pending an internal orderly room trial.
Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the Ondo State Police Commissioner to carry out a full and transparent investigation into the incident, which occurred along the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
In a statement released on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer Ani Iniedu condemned the behavior depicted in the video, emphasizing that ethnic profiling and disrespect toward citizens would not be tolerated.
“The conduct shown in the video does not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said. “Officers who fall short of the Force’s standards of professionalism and respect will be held accountable.”
The police authority reiterated its commitment to fair and ethical policing as it works to maintain public trust.
