Abeokuta, Nigeria –
A gathering of eminent Nigerian leaders, scholars, and citizens at the Ajibosin Platform Symposium has issued a call for a national moral and leadership renewal. The symposium, held on Friday, October 24th, 2025 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, focused on “The Importance of Leadership in Governance.”
The event, convened by Aare Dr. Kazeem Olanrewaju Bakinson, brought together key figures including His Majesty Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Minister Chief Osita Chidoka.
Culture and Leadership
Discussions centred on the need for leaders to rise above cultural biases that foster division. Dr. Soremiku noted that cultural diversity, while a strength, should not dictate leadership styles.
Foreign Intervention
Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun highlighted concerns about Nigerians’ reliance on external solutions for internal conflicts. She urged a move towards self-reliance and forward-thinking leadership, emphasising the importance of citizens taking responsibility for the changes they desire.
Call to Action
The symposium concluded with a strong call for leaders to embrace ethics, competence, and integrity. Participants stressed the importance of structuring mentorship and exposure to diverse environments in developing future leaders. Citizens were urged to actively participate in governance.
