Parts of Nigeria face two-day power cut for grid maintenance

Power supplies to parts of central Nigeria will be disrupted over the next two days while engineers carry out routine maintenance on the national grid, the state transmission company has announced.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said engineers will replace a circuit breaker on a key transformer at the Suleja transmission substation, situated just outside the capital, Abuja. The maintenance work began at 09:00 local time on Thursday and is scheduled to run until 16:00 on Friday.

As a result, the regional distributor, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), will be unable to supply power to several fast-growing towns and districts across Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory border region. The affected locations include Suleja, Madalla, Dikko, Minna Road, Gawaraka, Tungan Maje, Dakwa, Meter Works, and the nearby NNPC facility.Residents in nearby Jere, Tara, and Sabon Wuse will also face a brief 90-minute blackout to allow heavy machinery, including a crane, to be safely positioned at the site, TCN added.”

TCN apologizes for any inconvenience this interruption will cause electricity customers in the affected areas,” the transmission firm said in a statement.
