Parts of Lagos hit by power disruption following major transmission line failure

Parts of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, have experienced a disruption in electricity supply following a system fault on a major high-voltage transmission line early Tuesday morning.

In an official statement, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that the Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330kV line tripped at 12:37 a.m. local time on 27 October.

According to the state-owned grid operator, the outage was triggered by snapped conductors at the Ikeja-West terminal. The fault directly affects bulk power distribution to two main utility providers serving the metropolis—Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric (IE)—which supply millions of residential and commercial consumers across Lagos State.

TCN said its engineering teams have been deployed to the site to carry out emergency repair work and restore the high-voltage connection as quickly as possible.”TCN apologizes for any inconvenience caused to customers affected by the outage,” the company stated, appealing for patience from local distribution companies and affected residents while technical crews work to stabilize the regional grid.
