Power Outage Hits Parts of Nigerian Capital After Transmission Line Failure

ABUJA — Power supply has been disrupted across several eastern suburbs of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, following a fault on a major high-voltage transmission line, grid authorities said on Tuesday.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that the Apo–Karu 132kV transmission line tripped at 17:31 local time on Monday, cutting off electricity supply to the Karu Transmission Substation.Engineers inspecting the overhead lines discovered a snapped component — a cut jumper on the yellow phase conductor — at Tower T2 along the route.

The outage has left the local distributor, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), unable to supply power to thousands of homes and businesses across major residential and commercial hubs, including Karu, Nyanya, Kugbo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi, and Mararaba.

TCN said maintenance crews are carrying out urgent repairs on Tuesday to restore power as quickly as possible, offering an apology to affected consumers for the disruption.
