ABUJA — Nigeria’s Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated an internal anti-corruption unit within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to boost accountability and curb financial leakages.
Speaking at the inauguration at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja, ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu urged the newly inducted 11-member Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to carry out their oversight with strict objectivity and high ethical standards.
The ACTU initiative was created by the federal government to serve as an internal watchdog across public institutions, monitoring budget execution, identifying operational loopholes, and enforcing ethical compliance.”The scale of NYSC operations makes transparency, accountability, and strong internal controls essential to maintaining public confidence and safeguarding public resources,” said Aliyu, represented at the event by ICPC official Olusegun Adigun. He clarified that the unit is designed to complement NYSC management rather than interfere in routine administration.
In response, NYSC Director General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu reaffirmed the agency’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption. Speaking through Legal Services Director Chris Ogar, Nafiu called on the unit to lead by example and proactively block vulnerabilities that allow unethical practices to thrive.
The development comes as anti-corruption authorities intensify oversight across public sector agencies to strengthen institutional integrity and restore public trust.
