SDP candidate Olanrewaju Osho vows to transform FCT through ‘Fix FCT’ campaign

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Olanrewaju Osho, has declared his ambition to transform Nigeria’s capital through effective legislation, robust oversight, and direct civic engagement.

Speaking on Monday during a media roundtable with the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) in Abuja, Osho stated that his campaign, dubbed “Fix FCT,” is driven by a commitment to address the territory’s longstanding developmental challenges across its six area councils.

Osho argued that because the FCT lacks an elected governor or state house of assembly, its sole senator must adopt a governor-like mindset to effectively advocate for the territory’s expanding population.

Four-point legislative agenda

Outlining his core priorities, the SDP candidate stated that his tenure would be built on four pillars: representation, legislation, engagement, and oversight.

Key commitments from his legislative platform include:

• Bi-annual civic town halls: Holding consultations with residents across all six area councils at least twice a year to monitor grassroots needs and track federal projects.
• Diversified public investment: Moving beyond road construction to prioritize critical sectors such as healthcare, youth development, women’s empowerment, tourism, and support for the elderly.
• Energy sector reform: Pushing for legislation to expand electricity generation, alongside tax rebates and incentives for households and businesses adopting solar and renewable energy solutions.
• Hands-on oversight: Actively inspecting public infrastructure to ensure allocated federal funds are properly utilized.

Shift away from money politics

A long-time public servant, media professional, and founder of the road safety initiative Safety Beyond Borders, Osho called on voters to move away from money politics and assess candidates on competence and integrity rather than personal wealth.

“Leadership should be judged by competence, integrity, and the ability to solve problems,” Osho said, adding that he intends to work collaboratively with the FCT Minister and relevant government institutions to deliver results for residents regardless of political differences.
