Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued Mrs. Adonkie, the wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, following her abduction from her residence on 1 September.
The operation, carried out by troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison, led to the rescue of the victim at Angwan Sabo Village and the arrest of two suspected kidnappers near Gaube Village in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Military authorities confirmed that an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered during the follow-up operation on 2 September.
Intelligence-led pursuit
According to a statement by the military, troops launched a coordinated pursuit along suspected escape routes immediately after the abduction was reported.
Acting on intelligence, forces advanced along the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, making contact with the armed gang. The kidnappers abandoned Mrs. Adonkie and fled into the surrounding bush after being engaged by troops.
Reinforcements were subsequently deployed to seal off potential escape routes, leading to the interception of two fleeing syndicate members in Kuje.
The army stated that clearance and tracking operations remain ongoing across the area to apprehend remaining members of the network, while reassuring FCT residents of continued joint security operations to tackle criminal activity.
