President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Abel Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, succeeding Didi Walson-Jack following her statutory retirement.
Enitan was formally sworn in on Thursday, 27 August 2026, during a ceremony at the State House in Abuja, where he officially assumed leadership after the formal signing and exchange of handover documents.
A Career Civil Servant
Enitan, who hails from Osun State, steps into the role as the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, bringing over seven years of executive administrative experience to the post:
- Background and Career: Born in December 1966, Enitan holds a degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos and a master’s in Public Policy Analysis. Before his appointment, he served as Permanent Secretary across several ministries, including Education, Humanitarian Affairs, Police Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President.
- Presidential Charge: Charging the new administrative chief, President Tinubu urged Enitan to deepen professionalism, accountability, and efficiency across government ministries, departments, and agencies.
- Predecessor’s Exit: Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service, Didi Walson-Jack, who retired after attaining the mandatory age of 60, praising her efforts in advancing public sector reforms during her tenure.
Enitan’s appointment took official effect on 27 August 2026, as the administration seeks to streamline civil service delivery and drive ongoing public sector reforms.
