Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), has pledged to maintain an unyielding focus on national security following his appointment as Secretary I of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
His acceptance of the campaign role was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday, 24 August 2026, by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde.
Balancing Electoral Strategy and National Defence
Responding to his inclusion in the party’s high-level campaign leadership, General Musa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the APC hierarchy, framing the role as a call to service while reassuring the public that military and defence operations will remain unaffected:
- Dual Commitment: General Musa assured party stakeholders of his administrative dedication to securing victory for the ruling party while asserting that his constitutional mandate to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity remains absolute.
- Continuity in Defence Operations: The minister emphasized that ongoing counter-terrorism campaigns, structural reforms, and inter-agency security operations across the country will continue with increased vigor despite the upcoming electoral cycle.
- Call for National Support: He urged citizens and party members to remain united behind the administration’s security and economic agenda as campaign activities begin to take shape nationwide.
General Musa’s appointment comes as top political figures and cabinet ministers are integrated into the ruling party’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
