The Kogi State government has dismissed early political speculation regarding the 2027 election cycle, insisting that Governor Ahmed Ododo remains focused on delivering his administration’s development goals.
Speaking on Tuesday, Oladele Nihi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Student Matters, described discussions surrounding the next governorship election as premature.
Nihi noted that while every qualified citizen retains the constitutional right to seek public office, the administration would not be distracted by early campaigning.
“Anybody who is qualified and wants to run for Governor of Kogi State is welcome,” Nihi said. “Democracy guarantees every eligible citizen the right to aspire to public office. When we get to that bridge, we will cross it.”
Priorities and party unity
Nihi emphasized that Governor Ododo’s primary political objective remains strengthening party unity and supporting the federal administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
“Our focus today is not the governorship race,” Nihi stated. “Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is concentrating on consolidating the gains of his administration while working tirelessly to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates 100 per cent in Kogi State.”
He urged members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and local political stakeholders to support the state’s current development agenda rather than engaging in early electoral maneuvering.
The governor’s aide added that the administration will continue prioritizing key public sectors, including infrastructure, security, healthcare, and youth empowerment across the state.
