Security personnel at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have thwarted an attempted theft of critical grid infrastructure at the 330/132kV transmission substation in Bauchi.
Guards intercepted suspected vandals who were attempting to detach structural tower components on Friday, 24 July 2026. The suspects fled the scene upon being spotted.
A search of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck left behind by the fleeing suspects.

TCN confirmed that no equipment was stolen, no damage was sustained by the substation, and no injuries were reported. The recovered items and the vehicle have been transferred to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.
Praising the security team’s swift action, TCN General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, urged host communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity around power installations to local authorities or nearby TCN offices.
