Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have launched a major offensive targeting several high-profile terrorist leaders in Zamfara State, neutralising scores of fighters in coordinated air and ground strikes.
The targeted commanders include notorious terrorist kingpins Dogo Gide, Najaja, Nasanda, and Buba Oris.
Military sources said the operation began on Saturday, 25 July, after intelligence revealed that hundreds of insurgents had gathered near the Bayarzaki Riverline in Anka Local Government Area. The fighters were reportedly preparing for a large-scale tactical movement under the instruction of the four leaders.
In response, military forces launched precision strikes on identified positions at Barayan Zaki and key river crossing points. Troops from the 8 Division Strike Force simultaneously set up ambushes along primary escape routes to intercept fleeing insurgents.
The combined assault forced the militants to abandon their positions and retreat toward the main supply route between Gummi and Anka.
Heavy casualties and ongoing clearance
Ground forces subsequently made contact with the fleeing insurgents at Kombo High Ground in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. Following a heavy firefight, troops overran the group, inflicting significant casualties and forcing the remaining fighters to scatter into surrounding terrain.
Military sources confirmed that one soldier sustained injuries during the battle and was evacuated to the General Hospital in Anka, where he is currently receiving treatment. No military equipment was lost.
Troops returned to the area on Sunday, 26 July, to perform clearance operations, recovering leftover ammunition and securing key transport corridors.
Military authorities said aggressive patrols will continue across the region to prevent insurgents from regrouping, as part of broader efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle criminal networks and restore security across north-western Nigeria.
