Nigeria security: Pro-government group praises military after 13,000 insurgents killed

ABUJA — A political support group has strongly defended the security policies of President Bola Tinubu, praising the administration following military reports that more than 13,000 insurgents were killed over the past year.

The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) issued a statement on Saturday welcoming the latest security data, which they claim validates the government’s strategy in tackling Nigeria’s long-running insurgency.

In a joint statement, TMV Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe applauded official data indicating an 81% decline in terrorism-related fatalities across the country since 2023.

Applauding the milestones

The group highly commended the military’s dual approach of aggressive field operations and rehabilitation initiatives. They pointed to data from National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu showing that 17,000 suspected terrorists have been arrested, while more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents have surrendered through the state-backed Operation Safe Corridor programme.

“We note that these milestones were recorded based on the adequate equipping of the military and a boost to their morale,” the TMV statement said, praising the transition from standard training with Western allies like the US and France to direct joint combat operations.

Support for regional operations

The volunteers also lauded the gallantry of troops operating under Operation Whirl Stroke in central Nigeria, noting the recent rescue of 337 kidnap victims and the recovery of over 4,000 rustled cattle across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba states.

The group attributed the positive figures directly to the administration’s proactive funding of advanced technology and intelligence-gathering, expressing confidence that the military will continue to suppress criminal networks across the federation.
