The heads of Nigeria’s police and customs services have pledged to deepen intelligence sharing and joint operations to combat the country’s growing security challenges.
The commitment was made during a high-level meeting at the Nigeria Customs Service headquarters in the capital, Abuja, between the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
Mr. Adeniyi congratulated the new police chief and emphasized that a united front among law enforcement agencies is critical to safeguarding national interests and restoring peace.
“The customs service stands with the police in these challenging times,” Mr. Adeniyi said. “Together, we can strengthen the safety and stability of our nation through coordinated responses and better intelligence sharing.”
Responding, Mr. Disu described the customs service as a reliable partner, adding that closer cooperation between personnel on the ground would significantly enhance collective efforts to tackle cross-border crime and internal security threats.
The move toward closer inter-agency collaboration comes as Nigeria’s security forces face multiple strains, including armed banditry, smuggling, and the proliferation of illegal firearms across the country’s porous borders.
