Nigerian political group backs President Tinubu’s critique of opposition

ABUJA, Nigeria — A political support group, the Democratic Front (TDF), has formally aligned itself with President Bola Tinubu’s assessment of Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a joint statement issued by TDF Chairman Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Wale Adedayo, the group criticized the opposition’s current political strategy, claiming it lacks a coherent vision for the country.

The TDF accused opposition leaders of routinely criticizing the Tinubu administration’s policies without offering viable alternative solutions.

“The opposition in Nigeria has acquired a permanent proclivity for exaggerating political and economic situations in the country, by using fabricated or non-existent data to support flawed narratives,” the statement said.

The group further argued that opposition platforms have failed to present realistic economic frameworks that could rival the current administration’s post-subsidy reforms or foster an investment-driven ecosystem.

Additionally, the TDF rejected allegations that President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are attempting to transition Nigeria into a one-party state by destabilizing rival political structures. Characterizing the accusations as unfounded, the group argued that historical attempts to narrow Nigeria’s democratic space originated from figures within the opposition’s own ranks.

The statement cited constitutional amendments under former Senate President David Mark that aimed to deregister political parties as evidence of historical overreach by previous ruling coalitions.

The TDF concluded by urging the Nigerian electorate to reject opposition narratives and support the current administration in the upcoming 2027 polls.
