NASENI Trains 50 Women in Renewable Energy Technology to Boost Livelihoods

Fifty women have graduated from a renewable energy training programme in Kano State, part of a federal drive to get more women into Nigeria’s clean tech sector.

The three-day initiative, which concluded on Wednesday, provided practical training in solar inverter and battery technologies at Kano’s Technology Incubation Centre.

Organised under the “She-Powers Energy Initiative” by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), the scheme aims to boost women-led businesses and create sustainable livelihoods.

Khalil Suleiman Halilu, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, said the project is part of a broader commitment to bridge the gender gap in the country’s expanding renewable energy industry.

Officials say the programme fits into President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” economic agenda, which focuses on job creation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth.

As Africa’s most populous nation grapples with grid reliability, demand for off-grid solar and battery solutions has surged. NASENI says it hopes to leverage technology and innovation to foster economic opportunities for women nationwide.
