Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, has reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity amidst ongoing security challenges.
In an official Eid El-Adha message Mr. Matawalle extended his well-wishes to the Muslim community and the wider Nigerian public, using the annual Islamic festival to call for national unity.”Eid El-Adha reminds us of the virtues of sacrifice, patience, unity, and devotion,” Mr. Matawalle stated. “As we celebrate, I urge Nigerians to continue promoting peace, tolerance, and mutual understanding for the progress of our country.”
Focus on ‘Renewed Hope’ Agenda
The minister used the occasion to reinforce the administration’s current defence strategy, assuring citizens of collaboration between political leadership and state security forces.”I wish to assure Nigerians of my continued commitment, alongside the Armed Forces and other security agencies, to protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu GCFR,” the statement read.
Nigeria continues to battle multifaceted security threats, including banditry in the northwest, a decade-long Islamist insurgency in the northeast, and separatist tensions in the south. The “Renewed Hope” agenda represents President Tinubu’s core policy framework aimed at addressing these systemic economic and security vulnerabilities.
Tribute to Troops
The Minister also paid tribute to the military personnel operating on the front lines. He saluted what he described as the “courage and dedication of our troops who continue to make sacrifices in defence of our nation and its people.”He concluded the address with a prayer for the West African nation, asking for “peace, security, and prosperity.”
