Church donation boosts road safety operations in Abuja

A major Nigerian church has donated a new patrol vehicle to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to assist with rescue and enforcement operations in the nation’s capital. The Toyota Hilux, presented by the Dunamis International Gospel Centre at its “Glory Dome” headquarters on Sunday, is earmarked for the Lugbe unit—a busy corridor linking Abuja’s city centre to the international airport. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Omiko described the gesture as a “strong show of partnership.” Representing the Corps Marshal, he noted that the additional vehicle would significantly bolster the command’s ability to respond to emergencies and enforce traffic discipline across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Honorary Appointments

As part of the event, the church’s senior pastors, Dr. Paul Enenche and Dr. Becky Paul-Enenche, were formally decorated as Honorary Special Marshals. The investiture, endorsed by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, serves as a formal recognition of their influence in promoting civic discipline. Under Nigerian law, Special Marshals are volunteers vested with the power to:

Educate road users on safety protocols.

Assist in traffic control during peak hours.

Promote compliance with road traffic regulations.

Saving Lives is a Collective Drive’

The FRSC has been increasingly leaning on “public-private partnerships” to bridge equipment gaps and meet its ambitious target of reducing road traffic fatalities. Officials at the ceremony emphasised that road safety is not merely a government responsibility but a “collective drive.” The partnership with one of the city’s largest religious institutions is seen as a strategic move to reach thousands of commuters with messages of safety and compliance. For the Lugbe Sector Command (RS 7.18), the new vehicle arrives at a critical time, as the stretch of road it monitors remains one of the most heavily trafficked in West Africa.
