The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has promised a year of “steady growth” and improved welfare for citizens as the state begins implementing its new fiscal plan.
In a New Year’s Day message, Governor Ododo described 2026 as a “decisive year” for the north-central state, anchored by the recently passed “Budget of Shared Prosperity.”
The Governor’s address focused on shifting the state’s economy toward grassroots empowerment and industrial support, following what he described as a year of “steady improvement” in 2025.
Priority sectors
The 2026 agenda identifies five key pillars for the state’s development:
- Agriculture and Food Security: Boosting local production to lower living costs.
- Education and Healthcare: Strengthening service delivery and infrastructure.
- Security: Ensuring a stable environment for investment.
- Job Creation: Specifically targeting youth empowerment and support for local industries.
Transparency and fiscal discipline
Governor Ododo emphasised that achieving these goals would require strict “fiscal discipline” and transparent governance. He assured residents that state resources would be managed “wisely” to ensure that the benefits of the budget reach every citizen, not just those in urban centres.
“Together, we shall build a Kogi State where prosperity is shared, opportunities abound, and no one is left behind,” the Governor said in a statement released by his media adviser, Ismaila Isah.
A call for unity
Reflecting on the progress made in 2025, the Governor urged “Kogites” to remain united and law-abiding. He noted that the successful implementation of his administration’s policies so far had already begun raising the standard of living but admitted that more work was needed to transform lives across the state’s diverse communities.
The Governor concluded his message with a prayer for peace and success for all residents, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering “transformative results” throughout 2026.
