The police command in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has initiated an extensive security sweep targeting criminal elements in a renewed effort to enhance public safety. The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, ordered the territory-wide crackdown, which is set to run from November 2025 through January 2026.
In a statement released on Sunday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the operation is aimed at “identifying, dislodging, and apprehending all criminal elements hibernating within the nooks and crannies of the territory.”The initiative mobilises a joint force comprising all tactical and surveillance units, including the Police Mobile Force and the Counter Terrorism Unit, to work alongside local divisional police formations. CP Dantawaye stressed that the security exercise “will be conducted with intensity and consistency,” directing operatives to “dominate identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and vulnerable communities.”
Commitment to Professionalism
The police chief warned all officers involved to carry out their duties with professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights, vowing that “any act of misconduct or unprofessional behaviour would not be tolerated.”Residents of the FCT have been urged to cooperate with the security personnel and to report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station to support the sustained drive for peace.
Recent Successes
The launch of the operation follows a recent success by the command’s Scorpion Squad. The unit successfully rescued 23 foreign nationals and arrested 14 suspected kidnappers in neighbouring Nasarawa State on October 22, 2025. The intelligence-led rescue operation was initiated after a report indicated that the foreign nationals had been lured into Nigeria with false promises of lucrative job offers, only to be held hostage for ransom demanded via online platforms.
