JASAN Foundation Offers Scholarships for Aspiring Lawyers

ABUJA, Nigeria—The Johnny Agim, SAN Foundation (JASAN Foundation) has announced the second edition of its “Legacy500 Elite Mentees Sponsorship/Scholarship Programme,” offering financial and professional support to final-year law students in Nigeria. The initiative aims to help students overcome financial barriers to complete their legal education.

The scholarship targets aspiring lawyers enrolled in federal and state universities and provides full tuition coverage for the mandatory one-year Bar Part II programme at the Nigerian Law School. This programme is a critical step for graduates to be called to the Nigerian Bar and become licensed legal practitioners.

According to the Foundation, 30 successful applicants will be selected to receive the scholarship. Beyond financial aid, the programme includes mentorship from senior legal professionals and judges, as well as networking opportunities designed to help mentees build a successful legal career.

To be considered, applicants must be in their final year of a law degree and hold a minimum of a Second-Class Lower (2.2) grade point average. They must also provide verifiable proof of financial need.

The application process involves a two-part competition. Students are required to submit a written essay of 1,500 to 2,000 words and a three-minute video presentation on the topic: “The Legal Exchange: Benefits of Scholarship & Mentorship to the Student & the Legal Profession.” The video is to be posted on Instagram.

The deadline for all submissions is midnight on Monday, 6th October 2025. An independent panel of judges will review the entries for originality, factual accuracy, and relevance to the legal profession. The names of the scholarship recipients are scheduled to be announced on Friday, 24th October 2025.

The JASAN Foundation’s initiative reflects a growing focus within Nigeria’s legal community on supporting the next generation of legal practitioners through structured mentorship and financial assistance.
