Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, has met with the head of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to discuss expanding strategic partnerships in key sectors. The meeting in Abuja focused on education, food security, and infrastructure, all of which are central to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Ambassador Tuggar welcomed the Kuwaiti delegation, led by Director General H.E. Dr. Waleed Al-Bahar, and praised KFAED’s historical role in fostering development across the Global South. He highlighted the successful “Reaching Out-of-School Children” initiative in Nigeria’s Kaduna State, a project supported by KFAED and UNICEF, as a model for future cooperation. The minister underscored the need to expand such educational interventions nationwide to close the country’s significant education gap.
Discussions also addressed food security, with Ambassador Tuggar proposing collaboration on agricultural modernization. He pointed to areas like irrigation, agro-processing, and technology transfer as potential fields for joint ventures, noting that Kuwait’s reliance on food imports presents a mutual incentive for innovation.
Further talks touched upon new infrastructure projects in transportation, power, and digital connectivity. The minister called on the Kuwait Fund to provide continued concessional financing and technical assistance for these initiatives.
Both sides expressed optimism for the future of their partnership. Nigeria is set to host the first-ever Nigeria-Kuwait Joint Commission for Cooperation later this year, an event aimed at solidifying dialogue and accelerating mutually beneficial projects. The meeting concluded with a commitment to transform their shared goodwill into tangible outcomes that will benefit the citizens of both nations.
