WASHINGTON D.C. – US President Donald Trump has stated that Attorney General Pam Bondi should release “whatever she thinks is credible” regarding the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as he faces rare criticism from his supporters for attempting to downplay the case.
President Trump’s comments on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, come after Attorney General Bondi’s department recently asserted there was no evidence that Epstein maintained a “client list.” This statement appeared to contradict previous calls from some Trump allies, including his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, for greater transparency. Mr. Trump also questioned the ongoing “interest or … fascination” with the case, describing it as “sordid but boring” and suggesting that “only really bad people, including the fake news, want to keep something like this going.” He defended Ms. Bondi, stating, “She’s handled it very well, and it’s going to be up to her.” When asked if his name appeared in any records, he responded, “No, no.”
The controversy resurfaces after Mr. Trump, while campaigning last year, pledged to release files related to the disgraced financier. This issue re-emerged earlier this year during a public disagreement with his former adviser, Elon Musk. Despite the President’s recent frustration and calls to “move on,” some key Republican allies, including House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson, continue to advocate for full transparency regarding the Epstein files. Jeffrey Epstein died in a New York prison cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, having previously been convicted for soliciting prostitution from a minor. A recent memo from the Department of Justice and FBI stated that investigators found no “incriminating list” of clients or credible evidence of blackmail against prominent individuals and concluded that Epstein’s death was by suicide. However, elements within Mr. Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement continue to speculate that details of Epstein’s crimes are being withheld to protect influential figures.
