Abuja, Nigeria – Heads of universities in Nigeria have set the minimum admission benchmark for the 2025 academic year at 150 out of 400 for the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME). The decision was made on Tuesday during the 2025 policy meeting organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This benchmark means that no university in Nigeria will be permitted by JAMB to admit any candidate who scores below 150 in the 2025 UTME.
However, some institutions, including the University of Ibadan, Pan-Atlantic University, and the University of Lagos, have opted to set their individual minimum entry scores higher, at 200.
Newly established private universities had initially proposed a lower UTME score of 120. JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, had reportedly suggested a benchmark of 160.
