Kaduna, Nigeria – Sabon Gari Local Government Area has emerged victorious in the maiden Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Peace and Unity Cup 2025, a football tournament aimed at fostering reconciliation and cooperation among communities in Kaduna State.
In a thrilling final match against Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Sabon Gari secured the prestigious title with a single goal, as confirmed in a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information.

The tournament, initiated under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, was strategically organised to promote peace, unity, and grassroots engagement within Kaduna State’s diverse communities. Organisers said the event provided a vital platform for dialogue and reconciliation, particularly in areas with histories of communal tension.
The final match attracted a significant turnout and was attended by several dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Sports. The Governor of Kaduna State was represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abubakar Buba, who commended the initiative as a timely intervention for inter-community unity.
Individual and team awards were presented during the ceremony to recognise excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament.
The CDS Peace and Unity Cup is expected to become a regular fixture, with future editions potentially expanding to include more local governments and states. This expansion would further solidify the role of Nigeria’s Armed Forces in national peacebuilding efforts through non-kinetic engagements.
