Abuja, Nigeria – An explosion near the Abacha Barracks along the busy Nyanya-Maraba road in Abuja on Monday afternoon caused widespread panic among residents and commuters. One person is confirmed to have sustained injuries in the incident.
The blast occurred around 2:50 PM local time, prompting an immediate response from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was swiftly deployed to the scene, which was subsequently cordoned off to ensure public safety and allow for clearance and analysis.
A male victim was rescued at the site and has been taken to hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the explosion, stating that a comprehensive investigation, including forensic analysis, has commenced to determine the exact cause and nature of the blast.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring the public that there is “no cause for alarm.” They have also encouraged anyone with suspicious activity to report it to the nearest police station or through dedicated emergency lines.
