Social Media Influencer VeryDarkMan Arrested Over Cyberstalking Allegations, Says EFCC

Nigerian social media influencer Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking.

The anti-graft agency confirmed the arrest to BBC News Pidgin on Monday through its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale. According to Mr. Oyewale, VeryDarkMan was taken into custody in response to complaints from several individuals.

“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners on the allegation of cyberstalking,” Mr. Oyewale stated.

He added that the influencer would be released once he meets the bail conditions set by the agency, and that the case would be taken to court as soon as possible, emphasizing that the EFCC operates within the law.

When questioned about whether the case was linked to Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Oyewale clarified that the petitions originated from various individuals, and the agency has a responsibility to protect all petitioners.

Mr. Oyewale also indicated that the commission is planning to arraign the social media activist in court. The arrest of VeryDarkMan, who has a significant online following and is known for his outspoken views, is likely to draw considerable attention in Nigeria.
