Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has highlighted the significance of preserving cultural values and empowering women and girls in a speech at the 2025 Ovia Osese festival.
The festival, which honors young girls who have preserved their purity and discipline, was described by Governor Ododo as a “proud cultural heritage” and a “strong moral compass” that promotes dignity, discipline, and purposeful living among young people.
Governor Ododo emphasized his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities and safe spaces for girls to grow, lead, and succeed. He commended the Ogori community for preserving the age-long tradition and encouraged other communities to uphold customs that elevate the moral and developmental aspirations of young girls and women.
The governor highlighted the importance of balancing traditional values with modernization, urging community leaders to work closely with the government in instilling the right morals in the younger generation.
Governor Ododo also emphasized the need for peace, unity, and togetherness in strengthening cultural ties among the people of Kogi State. He assured that his administration remains committed to promoting equity, safeguarding the rights of women and girls, and creating an inclusive future for all citizens.
The governor invited tourists, cultural enthusiasts, and development partners to support the festival, stating that Kogi State is open for tourism, investment, and cultural exchanges.
