Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has condemned Canada’s decision to deny visas to the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, and other members of the Nigerian delegation. The group was scheduled to attend a function honouring Nigerian veterans in Canada.
Mr. Matawalle expressed “profound disappointment” over the treatment of the Nigerian delegation, stating that such actions jeopardize bilateral relations between Nigeria and Canada. He described the incident as “a serious affront to our national dignity and integrity”.
The minister has called for an immediate investigation into the reasons behind the visa denial, emphasizing that Nigeria must respond decisively to uphold its reputation as a key player in global affairs. He stressed that the Nigerian government must take a firm diplomatic stance and be prepared to respond assertively if no satisfactory explanation is provided.
The visa denial has raised concerns about Canada’s treatment of Nigerian military officials and the state of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Mr. Matawalle has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to maintaining its dignity and respect in the international arena, urging all stakeholders to work together to prevent similar incidents.
