Nigeria’s Communications Regulator Signs Pact with Consumer Protection Agency

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to promote fair competition and consumer protection in the telecommunications industry.

The MoU, signed on Tuesday, aims to eliminate regulatory gaps and ensure comprehensive oversight in the telecoms sector. The partnership is expected to benefit both operators and consumers, fostering a harmonious collaboration between the two agencies.

Key Objectives of the MoU:

  • Promote Fair Competition: Ensure a level playing field for all stakeholders in the telecommunications industry.
  • Protect Consumer Rights: Safeguard consumers from exploitative practices and ensure they receive quality services.
  • Streamline Operations: Implement a one-stop-shop approach for telecoms operators, reducing regulatory burdens.
  • Enhance Regulatory Oversight: Coordinate efforts to prevent regulatory conflicts and duplications.

The NCC and FCCPC have committed to working together to achieve these objectives, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of fostering economic growth through regulatory collaboration and prioritizing consumer welfare.
