The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, has wrapped up a two-day official visit to Nigeria, where she held high-level meetings with government officials, including President Bola Tinubu.
During her visit, Mohammed emphasized the need for Nigeria and other member states to deliver more ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to combat climate change. She stressed that the UN and other stakeholders must work together to ensure a safer future for the planet and its people.
Mohammed also highlighted the importance of the Pact for the Future, which aims to get the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) back on track. She explained that the Pact is not a separate agenda from the SDGs, but rather a pathway to achieving international peace and security, science and technology innovation, and transforming global governance.

The Deputy Secretary-General reassured that the UN would strengthen its partnership with the Nigerian government through the implementation of the UN-Nigeria Cooperation Framework (2023-2027). She pledged that the UN would continue to support Nigeria’s development aspirations, leaving no one behind.
Mrs. Mohammed’s visit focused on mobilizing support for regional integration, stability, and development, as well as strengthening humanitarian-development-peace nexus and addressing internal displacement.
