Nigeria’s Human Rights Record Under Scrutiny

As Nigeria prepares to usher in a new year, a human rights group has issued a scathing assessment of the country’s human rights record under President Bola Tinubu.

The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) accused the government of failing to address the country’s economic woes, insecurity, and electoral malpractices.

CHRICED’s Executive Director, Ibrahim Zikirullahi, said the government’s policies had worsened poverty and inequality, with millions of Nigerians struggling to access basic necessities like food and healthcare.

The group also criticized the government’s handling of recent elections, citing widespread irregularities and voter intimidation.

Furthermore, CHRICED expressed concern over the growing trend of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which it said threatened the country’s democratic framework.

The group called on the government to prioritize the welfare of poor and vulnerable Nigerians, address corruption, and implement substantial judicial and police reforms.
