Nigerian soldiers have arrested three high-profile terrorist leaders operating in the North-West and North Central zones of the country. The kingpins, identified as Hamisu Sale (aka Master), Abubakar Muhammad, and Bako Wurgi, were apprehended during separate operations conducted over the week.
According to Maj-Gen. Buba Edward, Director of Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters, Wurgi died from gunshot wounds sustained during his arrest. However, before his death, he provided valuable intelligence to support troops’ operations.
The arrested terrorist leaders are linked to several crimes, including the murder of a Sokoto monarch. Hamisu Sale and Abubakar Muhammad are cooperating with authorities and providing valuable information on the terror network.
In a separate statement, Maj-Gen. Edward revealed that troops have been placed on high alert to protect citizens during the festive season. He disclosed that massive operations against terrorist leaders have commenced across various theatres of operation.
During the week under review, troops neutralised 212 terrorists, arrested 272 persons, and rescued 152 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, troops recovered 247 assorted weapons and 6,174 assorted ammunition.
