Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 250 elderly citizens in Kogi State through her Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme. This is the second batch of beneficiaries in the state.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Sefinat Ododo, Wife of the Kogi State Governor, announced that approximately 2 billion Naira will be distributed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the presentation of cash gifts to beneficiaries at the Government House in Lokoja.
The beneficiaries, aged 65 and above, received ₦200,000 each, as well as free medical checkups and other sundry items. The scheme aims to support the welfare of elderly citizens annually, with 250 beneficiaries selected from each of the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers Wives’ Association (DEPOWA).
According to Senator Tinubu, the ₦200,000 grant is intended to support the beneficiaries in fending for themselves during retirement and old age. She also emphasized the importance of prioritizing healthcare, urging the senior citizens to engage in regular medical checks.
The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme is part of Senator Tinubu’s efforts to promote the welfare of elderly citizens across Nigeria.
Similar events have been held in other states, including Cross River, where the Wife of the Governor, Reverend Eyoanwan Otu, distributed ₦50,000 each to nearly 300 additional beneficiaries, including widows below 60 years
