Equatorial Guinea have secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations without playing, thanks to Togo’s 1-0 defeat to Liberia in their penultimate Group E qualifier.
Togo’s Hopes Dashed
The Sparrowhawks needed a win in Monrovia to keep their dreams alive, but Mohammed Sangare’s 83rd-minute penalty sealed their fate. Togo will now miss their fourth consecutive Nations Cup, having last participated in the 2017 tournament in Gabon.
Equatorial Guinea’s Assurance
The National Thunder are guaranteed a top-two finish in Group E, regardless of their final two matches:
- Thursday: vs. Algeria (home)
- Sunday: vs. Togo (away)
