Premier League referee David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation into a video allegedly showing him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Video Sparks Controversy
The unverified video, widely shared on social media, appears to reference a 2020 Premier League match between Liverpool and Burnley, which ended 1-1. Coote allegedly calls Klopp “arrogant” and uses profanity while discussing the match.
PGMOL Investigation
Refereeing body PGMOL is treating the video as genuine and has launched a thorough inquiry. A source close to the investigation confirmed that Coote’s suspension will remain in effect until the probe is completed.
Coote’s Experience and Background
Coote, 42, is one of the Premier League’s most experienced officials, refereeing top-flight matches since 2018. Registered as a Notts County fan, he is barred from officiating matches involving County or Nottingham Forest.
Reaction from English Football League Chairman
Rick Parry stated, “PGMOL is dealing with it – they have suspended him – they’ve acted quickly and will ensure a thorough and professional investigation.”
Liverpool’s Response
