In a significant stride against cancer, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has launched a cutting-edge mammography centre at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State. This facility, the second of its kind following the earlier commissioning of a centre at Garkida General Hospital in Adamawa, marks a crucial milestone in NNPC Ltd’s mission to enhance access to early cancer detection and treatment.
The centre is equipped with advanced technology, including 3D mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis, enabling over 120 examinations daily. This significantly boosts diagnostic capacity in Nasarawa State and the North Central region. The facility also features treatment rooms, a dedicated radiologist office, and a 20-person waiting area.
NNPC Ltd’s Chief Upstream Investment Officer, Bala Wunti, emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to improving Nigeria’s healthcare quality. Managing Director of TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, Matthieu Bouyer, highlighted their dedication to addressing healthcare challenges through strategic partnerships.
This initiative is part of NNPC Ltd’s broader efforts to tackle Nigeria’s high cancer mortality rate. The company has also conducted free cancer screening programs through the NNPC Foundation.
