Nigeria’s Power Generation Hits Three-Year High

Nigeria’s power generation has reached a three-year high of 5,313 megawatts, according to the Federal Ministry of Power. The ministry stated that electricity distributors must ensure the distribution of the generated energy to prevent grid collapse.

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu urged power distribution companies to take more energy to prevent grid collapse, as the grid’s frequency drops when power is produced and not picked up by the Discos.

However, a top official of one of the Discos said that power companies are struggling to pick up the extra energy produced by generation companies due to tariff issues.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Chinese company, Mutual Commitment Company Limited, to assemble electric tricycles and establish a renewable energy training center.

The MoU aims to aid in achieving Nigeria’s vision for the renewable energy sub-sector and expand energy access to rural areas.

Minister Adelabu emphasized the importance of transitioning to cleaner sources of energy and adopting a distributed power model to ensure energy access for all Nigerians.
