Nigeria Welcomes Inaugural Air Algerie Flight to Boost Bilateral Ties

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the commencement of Air Algerie’s inaugural direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, set to begin on April 6th, 2025. This development is being hailed as a significant step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Algeria.

The ministry stated that the new route is the result of the implementation of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between the two countries. The service will be operated by Algeria’s national carrier, Air Algerie, using a Boeing 737 aircraft.

Officials in Abuja believe the direct flights will enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and facilitate trade and investment between the two nations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to deepening cooperation in aviation, commerce, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Nigerian government commended the role played by the Embassy of Nigeria in Algiers in facilitating the new air link. The Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers, along with representatives of the Nigerian community in Algeria and the Algerian government, are expected to be on board the inaugural flight.

Nigeria’s government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant aviation authorities, has assured Air Algerie of its full support to ensure the success and sustainability of the new service. They anticipate that this initiative will further strengthen the long-standing friendship between Nigeria and Algeria and create new opportunities for mutual growth.

Furthermore, the ministry highlighted that the affordable fare structure and Algeria’s proximity to Europe will offer Nigerians a convenient gateway to the continent, potentially enhancing Nigeria’s position as a regional hub for business, tourism, and transit.

The Nigerian government is encouraging its citizens and the business community to take advantage of the new air connectivity, which will operate twice a week, to explore trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement that the government looks forward to a successful inaugural flight and a prosperous partnership with Air Algerie.
