Kogi State Governor mourns death of first NBC Director-General

The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, has expressed his condolences following the death of Professor Tom Adaba, the first Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). Professor Adaba passed away on Saturday at the age of 84.

Governor Ododo described the broadcaster, communications scholar, and media administrator as a “leading light for development in Nigeria” and a “courageous voice” for the people of Ebira land and Kogi State. He said he was saddened by the loss of “our father and leader” and offered his prayers to Professor Adaba’s family, the people of Kogi State, and Nigeria as a whole. He acknowledged Professor Adaba as a teacher, mentor, and leader in the media profession, academia, and the Ebira community.

Governor Ododo also extended his condolences to the Ohinoyi of Ebira land and the entire Ebira community.

Born in 1941, Professor Adaba achieved many firsts, including being the first Nigerian elected president of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE). He also served as the first principal of the Nigeria Television College and, later, as the first Director-General of the NBC, a position he held until his retirement in the late 1990s.
