Nigeria’s Defence Minister Warns Amaechi Over Inciting Comments

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has condemned former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for his recent comments suggesting that politicians must “steal, maim, and kill” to remain in power. Mr. Matawalle described Amaechi’s remarks as “reckless and dangerous,” saying they insult the intelligence of Nigerians and seek to radicalize the youth. He cautioned against misleading young Nigerians with a warped narrative of violence and anarchy, emphasizing that Nigeria is a sovereign nation governed by laws. The Minister warned that the security agencies are on high alert and will not tolerate any form of subversive rhetoric that seeks to undermine national unity or incite lawlessness. He reminded Amaechi that power is earned through democracy, not through intimidation, violence, or lawlessness.

Mr. Matawalle expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying it remains committed to upholding peace, democratic values, and the security of all Nigerians. He called on Nigerians to disregard Mr. Amaechi’s comments and place their faith in President Tinubu’s leadership.
