Amendment to allow third Trump term proposed by Republican

A Republican congressman, Andy Ogles from Tennessee, has proposed a constitutional amendment to allow Donald Trump to serve a third term as US president. Ogles’ proposal seeks to alter the 22nd Amendment, which currently limits presidents to two terms. Under his plan, a president would be allowed to serve three terms, provided only two are consecutive.

Ogles’ intention is clear: to enable Trump to continue his presidency. He stated, “This amendment would allow President Trump to serve three terms, ensuring that we can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.” Trump himself has previously joked about serving a third term, although he later dismissed the idea in an interview with Time magazine.

However, amending the Constitution is a daunting task, requiring two-thirds support from both the House and Senate. Even if all Republicans in Congress backed the proposal, it would still fall short. The move has reignited discussions about presidential term limits and Trump’s enduring influence within the Republican Party.
