Nigeria’s military personnel are now prohibited from engaging in homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, cross-dressing, and other acts deemed contrary to the ethics of the armed forces. This directive is contained in Section 26 of the revised Harmonised Armed Forces Terms and Conditions of Service signed by President Bola Tinubu on December 16, 2024.
Prohibited Activities:
- Homosexuality, lesbianism, and bestiality
- Body piercing and tattooing
- Disorderly behaviour, brawl, or any action of public disgrace
- Drunkenness on or off duty
- Amorous relationships with subordinates or their spouses
- Membership in secret societies or political parties
- Private business and misuse of government property for personal gain
The condition of service also emphasizes the importance of paying financial dues, including vehicle licenses and insurance, on time. Military personnel are obligated to maintain a high standard of conduct and avoid any actions that may bring discredit to the service
